Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data we collect when you visit patagoniarun.com, what we use it for, and what you can do about it. It is written to be understood, not to cover ourselves: if anything is unclear, write to us at info@patagoniarun.com.

What we collect and why

1. Our own site analytics

We want to know which channels bring runners to us and where the registration process stalls. For that we use our own system, hosted on our own server. We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party analytics tool.

We store a random identifier in your browser (pr_cid) that lasts 400 days, and we record:

  • the pages you visit and the language you read them in;
  • whether your device is a desktop, tablet or phone;
  • where you came from: referring site and campaign parameters (utm_*, gclid, fbclid);
  • clicks through to the registration platform and to the accommodation listings in the Tourism section.

We do not store your IP address. It is turned into an irreversible code used only to stop automated abuse. We also do not collect your name, your email, or anything that identifies you directly, and we do not build advertising profiles.

These records are deleted automatically after 540 days.

2. Visitor counting

We also keep a daily count of unique visitors. To tell one visitor from another within the same day, we generate a code from your IP address and browser, combined with a secret key that changes every midnight and is never stored anywhere. Those codes are deleted after 48 hours and cannot be reversed. What remains is a number: how many people visited that day.

3. Contact form

If you write to us through the form, we receive your name, email, phone number and message. That information reaches us by email and is used solely to reply to you. It is not stored in the site’s database and is not used to send you marketing.

To filter spam, the content of the form is checked by Akismet (Automattic Inc., United States). The email itself is delivered through Google.

4. Newsletter and notifications

If you subscribe to the newsletter, your data is handled by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France). If you accept browser notifications, they are handled by WonderPush (France). Both services load from their own servers and may store an identifier for you. In Europe they do not load until you accept them. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter in any email we send, and turn off notifications from your browser.

5. Registrations

Registrations are not processed on this site: they happen on app.signup.ar. When you click a registration button, we pass that platform your visit identifier and the campaign parameters, so we can tell which channel brought each registration without relying on third-party cookies. From that point on, the handling of your personal data — ID document, name, payment details — is governed by that platform’s own privacy policy.

Advertising

As of today this site has no advertising tags installed at all: no Google Ads, no Meta, no remarketing, no third-party cookies for advertising purposes. If that changes, we will update this page and ask for your consent before switching anything on.

How we decide what runs

It depends on where you are, because the law differs:

  • In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland: nothing is written or measured until you explicitly accept. If you ignore the banner, we do not measure.
  • Everywhere else: our own analytics runs by default, and you can turn it off whenever you want through the Privacy preferences link in the footer.

We honour the Global Privacy Control signal: if your browser sends it, we treat that as a refusal and do not measure.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, or object to our use of it, by writing to info@patagoniarun.com. We reply within the timeframes the law sets.

If you are in Argentina, you are protected by Law 25.326 on the Protection of Personal Data and may complain to the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR apply, and you may complain to your country’s supervisory authority.

For our own analytics, the fastest route is the Privacy preferences link in the footer: when you refuse, the identifier is deleted from your browser immediately.

Changes

If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. Changes that affect what we use your data for are also announced through the banner.
