Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 September 2026
This policy explains what data we collect when you visit patagoniarun.com, what we use it for, and what you can do about it. It is written to be understood, not to cover ourselves: if anything is unclear, write to us at info@patagoniarun.com.
Who is responsible
The data controller is Spartan Race S.A.U., organiser of Patagonia Run.
- Email: info@patagoniarun.com
- Phone: +54 2972 420949
- Address: San Martín de los Andes, Neuquén, Argentina
What we collect and why
1. Our own site analytics
We want to know which channels bring runners to us and where the registration process stalls. For that we use two tools: our own system, hosted on our own server, and Google Analytics. This section covers the first one; the second is in point 2.
We store a random identifier in your browser (pr_cid) that lasts 400 days, and we record:
- the pages you visit and the language you read them in;
- whether your device is a desktop, tablet or phone;
- where you came from: referring site and campaign parameters (
utm_*,gclid,fbclid); - clicks through to the registration platform and to the accommodation listings in the Tourism section.
We do not store your IP address. It is turned into an irreversible code used only to stop automated abuse. We also do not collect your name, your email, or anything that identifies you directly. This own system is not used for advertising; that is covered in the Advertising section.
These records are deleted automatically after 540 days.
2. Google Analytics
Alongside our own system we use Google Analytics 4, a service from Google LLC (United States), for the same questions: where runners come from and how they move around the site.
Google stores two cookies of this site in your browser (_ga and _ga_ZBB4ZQT7QE) that last up to 13 months, and collects:
- the pages you visit, the language, and how long you stay;
- your device type, browser and operating system;
- your approximate location —country and city— which Google derives from your IP address;
- where you came from: referring site and campaign parameters.
Google uses your IP address to derive the approximate location and does not include it in the reports we see.
So that we can show you advertising for the race, Google signals and ad personalisation are turned on. This enables remarketing — you may see our ads on other sites after visiting us — and, if you browse while signed in to your Google account, it lets Google match your visit to that account. None of this happens if you reject the advertising category: in that case your data is not used for advertising purposes and is not included in any audience. We have not enabled sharing your data with other Google products for Google’s own purposes.
The data sits on Google servers outside Argentina, mainly in the United States. That transfer is governed by Google’s terms, which you can read in their privacy policy.
Individual-level records are deleted after 14 months.
3. Visitor counting
We also keep a daily count of unique visitors. To tell one visitor from another within the same day, we generate a code from your IP address and browser, combined with a secret key that changes every midnight and is never stored anywhere. Those codes are deleted after 48 hours and cannot be reversed. What remains is a number: how many people visited that day.
4. Contact form
If you write to us through the form, we receive your name, email, phone number and message. That information reaches us by email and is used solely to reply to you. It is not stored in the site’s database and is not used to send you marketing.
To filter spam, the content of the form is checked by Akismet (Automattic Inc., United States). The email itself is delivered through Google.
5. Newsletter and notifications
If you subscribe to the newsletter, your data is handled by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France). If you accept browser notifications, they are handled by WonderPush (France). Both services load from their own servers and may store an identifier for you. In Europe they do not load until you accept them. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter in any email we send, and turn off notifications from your browser.
6. Registrations
Registrations are not processed on this site: they happen on app.signup.ar. When you click a registration button, we pass that platform your visit identifier and the campaign parameters, so we can tell which channel brought each registration without relying on third-party cookies. From that point on, the handling of your personal data — ID document, name, payment details — is governed by that platform’s own privacy policy.
Advertising
We advertise the race on Google. If you accept the Advertising category in the banner:
- we keep the click identifier when you arrive from an ad, so we know which ad brought each registration;
- Google may show you Patagonia Run ads on other sites for a while after your visit.
We do not advertise on Meta or on any other platform. This site does not display third-party ads. If you refuse this category no advertising tag is activated, and you can change your mind at any time from Privacy preferences.
How we decide what runs
It depends on where you are, because the law differs:
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland: nothing is written or measured until you explicitly accept. If you ignore the banner, we do not measure.
- Everywhere else: analytics runs by default, and you can turn it off whenever you want through the Privacy preferences link in the footer.
We honour the Global Privacy Control signal: if your browser sends it, we treat that as a refusal and do not measure.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, or object to our use of it, by writing to info@patagoniarun.com. We reply within the timeframes the law sets.
If you are in Argentina, you are protected by Law 25.326 on the Protection of Personal Data and may complain to the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR apply, and you may complain to your country’s supervisory authority.
For analytics, the fastest route is the Privacy preferences link in the footer: when you refuse, both our own identifier and the Google Analytics cookies are deleted immediately.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. Changes that affect what we use your data for are also announced through the banner.
